Painted IKEA VITTSJO Bookcase

In the words of Taylor Swift, “I got a blank space baby.”

It’s between my closet and TV.

I can’t hang art there because it wouldn’t make sense with the gallery wall next to it. I decided to go with a bookcase/shelving unit. The IKEA VITTSJO Shelving Unit was perfect. I’ve seen the VITTSJO line spray painted gold a lot. I figured it would dress it up and go with my living room, since I already have gold accents.

I decided to spray paint it before assembling, but then had to touch it up after assembling. If I was going to redo it, I would assemble first, then paint. I used Rust-Oleum metallic gold paint. Highly recommend it. I needed two cans.

Looks awesome! I just purchased the shelf. I will take your advice on assembling first – Thanks! How difficult was the assembly?

It was pretty simple! IKEA is good at that stuff. Also if I can build something it must be easy šŸ˜‰

This is brilliant. New follower! Did you use white contact paper for the bottom and top shelf? If not, how did you make it white? Ikea only to the shelf in black. Thanks!

Hi Maria! Thank you! It came white for me. Maybe they changed it?
