One year after buying my condo: looking back

one year later - looking back

One year ago today, I bought a condo. So crazy! It’s even crazier to look back at some of my original pictures of the condo and see how far its come (and how much more I need to do). I decided to write this post to reflect on some of the updates, projects and condo progress over the last year. This post also officially marks the end of my before pictures in my Home Tour page on the blog.

Let’s start at the beginning…

The Entryway

The Living Room

I painted all of the walls Benjamin Moore Pebble Beach. I started with just a couch, but gradually over the last year, everything started coming together. Next I need to add a chair or two and some new curtains.

I can’t talk about the living room without mentioning the AC Unit Bookcase. Remember this post? It went (semi) viral. I used to work in PR and currently work in Social Media, so seeing something organically start being picked up on different home sites and shared over and over was pretty exciting.

coverage

Along with the coverage came comments. A LOT of comments. Most positive. Of course, with anything, there are always the negative. A few people thought I’d hit my head on the doors as I walked by. First of all, it’s against a wall, not in the middle of the floor, I don’t walk by it. Second of all, the doors aren’t open 24/7. My favorite of the negative comments was a person who commented positively about the project but made sure to mention my curtain length is off. I KNOW THAT. These are filler curtains. I haven’t purchased nice new curtains for the room yet. But thank you, commenter, for telling me my curtain length is off.

On to the next room!

The Dining Room

Please reference the same “before” picture as the living room.

I had a plastic folding table for about 7 months before I got this dining room table. Isn’t it beautiful?

The Kitchen

This was by far my biggest project. It started as a very standard apartment kitchen.

I haven’t looked at this picture in a while. It’s still surprising to see how far the kitchen has come.

Speaking of comments… My kitchen was featured on Apartment Therapy and someone commented that leaving the cereal boxes on top of the fridge for the photos makes my kitchen “look like a frat house.” Really? They are Trader Joes cereal boxes, not Frosted Flakes. Sorry I forgot to remove them before taking pictures.

The Master Bedroom

One of my favorites. I love how this room is coming together. First, here’s the before

Then I had my dark accent wall.

Then I decided to take a risk and go bold with a jewel tone. Enter Galapagos Turquoise. I’m still pulling the room together, but here’s a preview:  IMG_5259_2

It makes the room feel more grown up, doesn’t it?

The Bathroom

A pretty easy before-after shot. The biggest change here was the sink. Love pedestal sinks but I needed the storage.

I have to laugh looking at these pictures because the desk is so CLEAN. Unfortunately, I’ve let papers pile up since. I need to clean it.

Hi! I found your blog through Pinterest while searching for a dark teal paint color that might look good in a bedroom I’m getting ready to update. From there I’ve had a good time looking around :). You have done a lovely job with your home! I love your design style, very similar tastes to mine ;). Thanks for the inspiration!!

    Best, Sam
